Type Locality and Naming
Named after a sacred place, North Nuratau range. R.R. Usmanov et al. in 1991 when compiling the reference legend for the geological map of the North-Nurata region (1999). The stratigraphic name is not recommended for use.
Synonym: Mazar Suite, Мазарская св.
Lithology and Thickness
Gray, light, and dark gray, cross-bedded and massive, often organogenic limestones. Thickness 385m.

Fossils
Contains brachiopods - Lissatrypa columnata (Barr.), Alaskospira carens Barr. and others; tabulates - Favosites pseudoforbesi ochessarensis Klaam. and others; conodonts - Ozarcodina cf. excavata (Br. et Mehl.), found in the Ludlow (Abduazimova et al., 1996; 165; 460). Mazar Fm is part of the Ausykenian (Usmanov et al., 1999).
